What is “Agentic” Timeout?
All AI agents operate on strict compute budgets. If an AI agent exceeds the time budget it has to complete a task, it will timeout and drop the task. If an AI agent has a task of visiting five sites to find an answer to a complex query, a one second delay on a slow site will stall the entire process. AI agent will skip your site in the favour of a source which is faster to save its own time.
The 2 Second Rule of Agentic Timeout
AI agents like Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity and others operate on a strict compute budget. They do not have the patience of a human. If your page takes five seconds to become interactive, the agent may timeout of skip your website in favour of a faster source. This is done to save it’s processing time and tokens.

Heavy HTMLs Affect Your Page Speed
We need our web pages to load faster. Which means strategies need to be deployed where web pages are light without compromising user’s experience. These light weight files are text only rendition of an HTML page without the heavy scripts, CSS, adverts, pop ups etc. Light weight pages are indexed and cited more reliably because they are cheaper for AI models to parse, extract, recommend and cite.
Core Web Vitals Matter
We are moving from clicks to citation economy. Figuring out visibility on the AI first web is the new question every marketer is facing. With AI being the new discovery layer or the middleman so to speak, we are not just fighting for the top 10 blue link in search engine result pages. We are fighting to become the source of AI’s answer. Page speed is the first criterion that enables it.

Time to First Byte (TTFB) is highly critical for this and should be less than 200ms. Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) is vital for AI agents to see the main content and should be less than 2 seconds. Size of the HTML page defines how many tokens are used for processing and this size should ideally be less than 2 MB.
Interaction to Next Paint (INP) helps understand how quickly a site’s internal tools like search bar or next page load work in response to AI request. Google has shifted it’s focus heavily onto INP and this must be less than 200ms.
